Wrestling roundup: Richmond takes Duals

HARRISON TWP. -- Richmond went 5-0 Saturday to win the L'Anse Creuse Duals, picking up its 500th win since 1991, when George Hamblin took over the team, in the process.

The Blue Devils, ranked No. 1 in Division 3 and No. 2 in all classes, defeated Utica Eisenhower (63-7), Grosse Pointe South (72-9), Portage Central (63-6), Saline (57-16) and L'Anse Creuse (49-12).

Richmond (25-0) had six wrestlers go 5-0 on the day, led by Casey Martin (119 pounds), who was named MVP of the lower weights.

Dominic Cattera (112), Sean Clancy (130), Brian Henke (145), Roger Crump (160) and Greg Sebastian (215) also went unbeaten on the day.

Grant Hafner (125), Alex Morang (140), Adrian Morang (152), Dakota Boldrey (171) and Robert Clancy (189) each went 4-1 on the day for Richmond.

After the Portage Central win, which was the 500 th, parents gave Hamblin a plaque marking the accomplishment. There were also former wrestlers from the 1991 team on hand to witness the occasion.

Richmond returns to action Wednesday, with one team traveling to Allen Park, and the other to Capac for the first Blue Water Area Conference duals of the season.
